Our vision for the Finland of 2040 is a child- and family-friendly welfare society where children, young people and families of all kinds dare to dream and trust in a good future. Healthy children, young people and families lay the foundation for a successful democratic society and sustainable economy.
We must use research data, predict phenomena and identify the combined effects of decisions in building the wellbeing of children, young people and families. Decision-making accounts for the impacts that extensive social changes and slow and rapid crises have on children, young people and future generations. Examples of such changes and crises include climate change, increasing challenges to wellbeing, nature’s deteriorating carrying capacity, technological development and geopolitical tensions and security. We must earnestly listen to the views of children and young people and actively involve them in creating solutions for both everyday life and the future.
All growing environments for children and young people – homes, early childhood education, schools and leisure time activities – must foster inclusion comprehensive wellbeing. Children, young people and parents must receive the effective support they need no matter where they live, work and play.
Every child and young person should feel fully accepted, regardless of their background. Childhood is intrinsically valuable: children should be allowed to play, learn and grow in peace, and young people must be given the time they need to find their own path.
